Tell the assessor which chair or bed you actually use. Bring the discussion back to the difficult movement: sitting down, standing up, getting legs into bed, or turning while in bed.
Bed rails need individual advice
Don't buy a bed rail or bed lever as a general precaution. The MHRA safety guidance describes serious risks, including becoming trapped. The person, bed, mattress and equipment must be considered together.
Read the bed rail and lever guide before considering one. Ask an OT first.
Questions about seating
Ask whether the existing chair can be assessed before replacing it. If you are considering a riser recliner, ask to discuss the fit, available space, controls, power supply and arrangements for servicing. A product photograph cannot answer those questions.
Add chairs and beds to your assessment checklist. Assessment services and equipment provision differ across the UK.
